The Obligation to Listen to Qur’an Recitation Outside Prayer, from the Verse “When the Qur’an Is Recited…”
Question
The words of Allah Most High: [ar]إِذَا قُرِئَ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥ وَأَنصِتُوا۟[/ar] “When the Qur’an is recited, listen to it and be silent” (the verse) (Surah al-A‘raf, 7:204) — do they establish the obligation (wujub) of listening [to the Qur’an] outside of prayer, or merely its recommendation (nadb)? What should be acted upon in this age? What is the view of the majority of the Hanafis?
Answer
