Attending a Wedding Where There Are Reprehensible Things
Question
(1) If at some wedding there is dancing of courtesans, mimics (?) and musical instruments, how is it to take part in it? If it is necessary for some relative to be present, and he does not take part in the dancing gathering but only joins in the other affairs of the wedding and takes part in the meal — what is the ruling on this? (2) If at some wedding there is only music, how is it to take part in it and to join in the meal and so on?
Answer
(1) If that relative is such that his not taking part would grieve the people of the wedding, and it is expected that they would stop the dancing, singing and so on in order to have him take part — or his participation would give others occasion to cite it as proof, and other people too would do these things — then participation is impermissible.
