Scholars Attending a Wedding Where There Are Customs
Question
Is it permissible or not for scholars (‘ulama) to attend a wedding at which a sehra (wedding garland veil) is tied, fireworks are set off and there are other customs of bid‘a (innovation), and to perform the nikah there?
Answer
When it is known beforehand that there are prohibited things at such-and-such a wedding, one should decline to take part in it. Especially one who is followed as an example (muqtada: an ‘alim, an imam and the like) should not take part.
