Prohibition by Affinity Resulting from Touching One’s Mother, Mother-in-Law or Son’s Wife

Question

If a person, by mistake, taking his mother for his wife, touches her with desire (shahwa), will his wife become haram for him, and how great will his sin be? Likewise, if a person, by mistake, taking his mother-in-law for his wife, touches her, then, once the wife becomes haram, can a nikah be contracted with the mother-in-law? Likewise, some godless people (mulhids) have intercourse with the wives of their children — will these wives become haram for the children, and how great is the father-in-law’s sin for this?

Answer

If he truly, by mistake, taking his mother for his wife, touched her with desire and, on realising, felt remorse, then he has committed no sin by this, nor has his wife become haram for him by it. However, that mother will become haram for his father, provided the father confirms his statement.
