Prohibition Resulting from Kissing and Embracing the Wife of One’s Daughter’s Son

Question

Zayd kissed and embraced the lawful wife of his daughter’s son. This is the statement of the girl alone; there is no testimony, and the girl is also Zayd’s niece (his brother’s daughter). Has this girl become haram for Zayd’s grandson or not? Further, if the grandson divorces this wife of his (talaq), may the maternal grandfather marry her or not? Is there any difference between the paternal grandfather and the maternal grandfather with regard to the prohibition by affinity (hurmat al-musahara)?

Answer

For Zayd (the maternal grandfather), his grandson’s lawful wife became haram already at the moment his grandson contracted the nikah with her. And when Zayd, the maternal grandfather, kissed his grandson’s wife with desire (shahwa), and the grandson moreover confirmed this, then this lawful wife of the grandson has now become haram for her own husband as well.
