The Effect on the Nikah of Changing the Father’s Name in the Register

Question

In the register of a wedding, the name of the young man’s maternal uncle was entered in the column for the bridegroom’s father. Will this marriage be valid in this case or not? For the young man was brought up in childhood by his maternal uncle.

Answer

Since the girl goes to the bridegroom and the witnesses see him, this is sufficient for the conclusion of the nikah; even if there is no entry in the register at all, the nikah is valid. If the maternal uncle’s name has been written in place of the father’s name because he was brought up by the uncle, then too no defect has arisen in the nikah.
