On which side of a settlement should the Eidgah and the graveyard be?

Question

Some people say that the Eidgah (open ground for the Eid prayer) should always be to the west of the inhabited area, and the graveyard should be to the east of the inhabited area.

Answer

It is not necessary for the Eidgah to be to the west of the inhabited area; it may be built on whichever side there is an opportunity. This restriction regarding both these things has no basis.
