Should the Eid Prayer Be in the Mosque or in an Open Field
Question
Zayd, in his capacity as mutawalli, says that there is no need to pray tarawih and the Eid prayers in the mosque: Allah’s earth is vast, and they can be prayed anywhere. Meanwhile, the Eid prayers are performed in the mosques of other quarters of the city, and there is no adequate provision of an Eidgah (open ground for the Eid prayer) and the like. In such a situation, how far is this person in the right? Please inform us.
Answer
Tarawih should be prayed in the mosque itself; the mutawalli has no right to forbid this. Praying the Eid prayer in the Eidgah is sunna. If there is no Eidgah and there is no room to perform the prayer outside in an open field, then the worshippers will perform the Eid prayer in the mosques themselves, and the mutawalli should not forbid this.
