Does the Eidgah Have the Ruling of a Mosque?
Question
According to “Shami”, if the place for the funeral prayer is at the edge of a road, in an open field or in a forest, then a gap between the imam and the muqtadis (followers) wide enough for at least an ox-cart to pass invalidates the prayer. And according to “Khulasat al-Fatawa”, in the place for the funeral prayer and in the Eidgah (open ground for the Eid prayer), the rows being joined is not a condition for the validity of following the imam (iqtida’). (a)
Answer
There is no contradiction between the two: the mosque, the place for the funeral prayer and the Eidgah, as regards the ruling on iqtida’, have the status of a mosque. A road does not have this ruling. So it is in “al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya”.
