The imam forgot the ruku' in the Eid prayer

Question

In the Eid al-Adha prayer the imam forgot to perform the ruku', and because of forgetting the ruku' he performed sajda al-sahw. Is the prayer valid or not?

Answer

The ruku' is fard, and by omitting a fard the prayer becomes batil; sajda al-sahw does not suffice.
