The Eid Prayers: Inside the Settlement or in the Open Country?

Question

Is it better (afdal) to perform the Eid prayers inside the village, or outside the settlement in the open country (sahra’)? What is established from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the master of the world?

Answer

It is better to perform the Eid prayers in the open country (sahra’). In “al-Durr al-Mukhtar”: [ar]والخروج إليها أي الجبانة لصلاة العيد سنة وإن وسعهم المسجد الجامع هو الصحيح[/ar] “Going out to it, i.e. to the jabbana (the common prayer ground outside the settlement), for the Eid prayer is sunna, even if the Jami‘ mosque can accommodate them; this is the correct [view].
