The Eid Prayer of Hanafis Behind Shafi‘is

Question

If in the Eid prayer the imam is of the Shafi‘i madhhab and the followers (muqtadis) are Hanafis, according to whom the Eid prayer is wajib, whereas according to al-Shafi‘i ﵀ it is sunna — is the Eid prayer of the Hanafis valid and permissible or not? If the Hanafis’ following (iqtida’) a Shafi‘i is not valid and permissible, then what way is there for it to become valid and permissible?

Answer

If the imam observes the Hanafi madhhab — that is, he performs the fard and wajib acts and does not omit them — then the prayer of Hanafis following such an imam will be valid without hesitation.
