Praying the Eid Prayer with the Intention of Nafl

Question

In the Eid prayer we name nafl [in the intention], and we have always been naming nafl. Is the prayer valid or not? What is wajib? Only “wajib” is named — neither nafl, nor fard, nor sunna?

Answer

The Eid prayer is wajib, so in future it should be prayed with the intention of wajib; there is no need to repeat the past Eid prayers. The rank of wajib is above sunna and below fard.
