If a woman prays Jumu'a, the Zuhr prayer is lifted from her

Question

In our area many women perform the Friday prayer instead of the Zuhr prayer. Will the Friday prayer take the place of Zuhr or not?

Answer

Jumu'a is not incumbent upon women, but Zuhr is; however, if [a woman], following the men, has prayed the Friday prayer behind the imam (observing hijab), the fard of Zuhr is lifted from her. [ar]وَشَرْطُ وُجُوبِهَا الْإِقَامَةُ وَالذُّكُورَةُ…[/ar] “The condition for its being obligatory is residence (iqama) and being male…” (“al-Kanz”).
