Coming from a village to the city for Jumu'a

Question

A certain man is the imam of a mosque in a village, and he is keen on the Jumu'a prayer. If he comes to perform the Jumu'a prayer in a small town or city that is at a distance of one or two kos (a unit of distance, about 1.5 miles, ≈ 2.4 km), will his prayer be valid or not? Will he receive the reward of the Jumu'a prayer or not? Likewise, if someone other than the imam comes from the village to the city to perform the Jumu'a prayer, what is the ruling?

Answer

A person upon whom Jumu'a is not fard — whether because he lives in a village or because of illness and the like — if he performs Jumu'a in a place where Jumu'a is valid, he will receive the reward of Jumu'a for performing it, and the obligation (farida) will be discharged from him, whether he is the imam or a muqtadi.
