Jumu'a for the people of a village near a small town
Question
The village in which Zayd lives has a population of 500, and it is a mile and a half from the small town. Sometimes the sound of the adhan of the small town reaches the village as well. Zayd says: the sound of the small town's adhan reaches my village, therefore Jumu'a is fard upon us. What is to be ascertained is whether Zuhr falls away from Zayd's obligation or not — given that they used to go to the small town to perform (?) the Friday adhan.
Answer
While Zayd lives in that village, Jumu'a is not binding on him: he is under no obligation to pray it in that village, because this village is a small village (qarya saghira), nor is he obliged to go a mile or a mile and a half away and pray it in the small town, even if the sound of the adhan is sometimes heard from there. This is the most correct view (asahh).
