Jumu'a in a factory
Question
For a long time an istifta (request for a fatwa) has been lying here to which no answer could be given, because its solution was not fully understood. The particular reason for this is a fatwa given in “Imdad al-Fatawa”. Further, there is difficulty in determining what the texts of “Shami” and other [books] are to be applied to (mahmal). The istifta is as follows. At the H.A.L. factory (that is, the Kanpur arms factory) the Friday prayer has been held for the past six or seven years.
Answer
Answer of Faqih al-Umma ﵋ According to this narration (riwaya), Jumu'a is permitted in the said factory as well. And if there is an opportunity to go outside and pray [it there], that too is permitted, because the existence of a mosque is not a condition for [Jumu'a's] permissibility.
