The Ruling on Jumu‘a in a Settlement with Thirty Muslim Households
Question
In a certain village in which there are thirty Muslim households there is a small mosque, and two miles from this village, in a small town, there is a large mosque in which there are many Muslims and Jumu‘a is held. In this situation, can Jumu‘a be held in the aforementioned village, in which there are only thirty Muslim households, or not? (2) How many Muslim houses must there be in a village for the Jumu‘a prayer to be valid? (3)
Answer
(1) You have not described any other circumstances of this settlement of thirty households: if this settlement is such that, for example, its population is three or four thousand, it has a market and streets and lanes, and all the everyday necessities are available, then Jumu‘a is valid there, even if there are only thirty Muslim households.
