Jumu'a in the village of Dadri
Question
Two miles from Hapur there is a village, Dadri, whose total population is two and a half thousand, and whose Muslim population is four hundred. It also has a mosque in which Jumu'a was held for years. This year an imam came; having asked about the ruling, he stopped the Jumu'a. After that another imam came, and he too did not lead Jumu'a. The people who pray only Jumu'a insisted strongly. In any case, on the Friday that fell on 19 Muharram the imam led Jumu'a under compulsion.
Answer
If the state of your village is doubtful, it is better to invite a scholar who is experienced and skilled in questions of fiqh and have it inspected. If, after seeing all the circumstances, he declares Jumu'a permissible, then begin praying it; if he forbids it, do not pray it.
