The ruling on Muslims killed because of the fighting of disbelievers

Question

Disbelievers are fighting from both sides, and in between there is a Muslim settlement. The people there die from the bullets of both sides, or they are killed on suspicion. Will these people be called martyrs (shahid) or not?

Answer

Those who died in such a situation without [any] fault of their own are also martyrs (shahid).
