The funeral prayer over a suicide: washing, shrouding and burial

Question

If some Muslim has committed suicide, may he be washed, shrouded and buried like ordinary Muslims or not?

Answer

Committing suicide is a very great sin, but the funeral prayer will still be performed over such a person, and all the matters of preparing the body and shrouding it will be carried out in accordance with the sunna. This is the madhhab of Imam A‘zam ﵀, and it is on this that the fatwa is reported in Sakb al-Anhur.
