The gap between the rows of the funeral prayer
Question
When there is room and no excuse whatsoever, should one stand close together [row behind row] in the funeral prayer, or should one leave as much space as is left for one row in [ordinary] prayer? If one stands close together without any excuse, is there any particular fault in it?
Answer
In the ordinary prayer (salat mutlaqa) there are bowing (ruku‘) and prostration (sajda); between two rows enough space is left empty for ruku‘ and sajda to be performed in accordance with the sunna. In the funeral prayer there is no need for this; even if the rows are close together, it is still correct.
