The funeral prayer over one who committed suicide

Question

If some Muslim commits suicide and dies, will the funeral (janaza) be held for him or not? What is the ruling if the one who committed suicide is a minor, and what is the ruling if he is an adult?

Answer

Suicide, by whatever method it is committed, is haram and a major sin (kabira). Nevertheless, a Muslim who has committed suicide is also to be washed in the manner of the Sacred Law and shrouded, and after the funeral prayer has been performed he is to be buried in a Muslim graveyard.
