No Funeral Prayer for a Child Born Dead
Question
A dead child was born to a certain Hinda, but the afterbirth did not come out, as a result of which Hinda also passed away. The child’s umbilical cord had not been cut, so both the mother and the child were buried in one kafan and one grave; the child was placed between her thighs. Was it right to do this or not?
Answer
What has been done has been done; do not make any correction to it. It would have been better to cut the umbilical cord and bury the child separately. He was born dead, [so] there was no funeral prayer for him either.
