Funeral prayer for a Muslim woman held in the possession of a Hindu
Question
At the time of the partition of India many women fell into the possession of Hindus or Sikhs. One of these wronged Muslim women is here (in England) in the possession of a Hindu, and she also has two or three children from this Hindu. The said woman prays from time to time, keeps fasts, and also observes other Islamic customs, such as the mawlid, the gyarahwin (a monthly offering on the 11th in memory of ‘Abd al-Qadir Jilani), the night of mid-Sha‘ban and the like, and she also recites the Qur’an.
Answer
It is evident that this woman has not changed her religion; rather, being wronged, she came into the possession of another. It may be that release is now possible for her, but she has become attached to this man; it is necessary for her to strive to separate herself from there.
