The funeral prayer in the Eidgah
Question
What is [the ruling on] performing the funeral prayer in the Eidgah (the place of the festival prayer) — whether or not there is some place adjoining the Eidgah?
Answer
According to the preponderant (rajih) and soundest (asahh) view, the Eidgah has the status of a mosque only with regard to the permissibility of following the imam (iqtida’) when the rows are not contiguous. Therefore the funeral prayer in the Eidgah is not prohibited (as [it is] in a mosque) — whether or not there is an adjoining place.
