Does the Hanafi School Stand in the Way of Accepting Islam
Question
Mawlawi Siraj Ahmad Firozabadi gave himself a fictitious name — “Mr Ram Narayan Saksena, debater of the Arya Samaj” — and raised objections against imam Abu Hanifa. He says: I would have become a Muslim, but I do not become one because of the rulings of imam Abu Hanifa. And he writes that the imam holds the moisture of a woman’s private part to be pure, and that upon one who commits an indecency with a corpse or an animal there is no expiation for the fast.
Answer
This man saw defect and fault in the school of imam Abu Hanifa, while in the schools of imam Malik, imam al-Shafi‘i and imam Ahmad he saw no defect at all. Well then, the safe course is this: let him accept the school in which he sees no defect or fault. Let him adopt whichever way pleases him — that of imam al-Bukhari, imam Muslim, Ibn Taymiyyah, or others.
