One Who Wishes to Accept Islam Must Be Received at Once

Question

Several people came to the imam of a mosque and said: a young man wishes to become a Muslim; recite the kalimah to him, that is, make him a Muslim. The imam replied: at present I am engaged in an important matter, and so-and-so, a respected and influential Hajji, is also present here; therefore go to some other imam.

Answer

If a person wishes to abandon kufr and accept Islam, he should indeed be made a Muslim at once and brought to repent of kufr. To delay this or to send him on to someone else is a thoroughly wrong way to act; the jurists have issued a very severe ruling regarding such a person.
