Question
Is the word “Thuwayba” (ثویبہ) — [the name of] the woman who suckled the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — correctly pronounced with damma on the three-dotted tha (ث), fatha on the waw, sukun on the lower ya, and fatha on the ba, with ha hawwaz (i.e. Thuwaybah), or with fatha on the three-dotted tha, sukun on the waw, kasra on the lower ya, and fatha on the ba and ha (i.e. Thawibah)? Please be sure to answer. Is the word “Dirar” (ضرار) [pronounced] with fatha or with kasra on the dotted dad, and what is its meaning?
Answer
“Thuwayba” (ثُوَيْبَة) — with damma on the three-dotted tha, fatha on the waw, sukun on the lower ya and fatha on the single-dotted ba, with ha hawwaz — is correct. “Dirar” (ضِرَار) — with kasra on the dotted dad, on the measure of “kitab” (كِتَاب) — is the name of a Companion, and in meaning it is “causing harm to one another”. “‘Arab” (عَرَب)
