Weight of the “Red Dinar” and the Takka
Question
What was the weight of two “red dinars”? Please write and send this necessary information: are two red dinars equal to five hundred takkas (an old small coin worth two paise)?
Answer
Nowadays, in our region, neither takkas nor the red dinar are in use. Formerly, a red dinar weighed three and a half mashas (a unit of weight, ≈ 0.97 g); it may also have had other weights besides this. A takka was worth two paise (a small copper coin, a fraction of a rupee).
