The husband's right of ta'zir

Question

What do the scholars of religion and the muftis of the firm Shari‘a say regarding this issue: the respected Mawlawi Ashraf ‘Ali in his Bihishti Zewar (“Heavenly Ornaments”) says that suckling the child is wajib upon the woman, yet if the woman refuses, the man is not commanded to compel her. So, since there is no command to compel regarding a wajib — prayer and fasting are fard: what is the ruling on making her carry them out? And if the woman does not act upon his telling her, what is the ruling for her?

Answer

Write out both passages with reference to the part and page. If she abandons prayer and fasting, the man has the right to punish her appropriately; likewise for every sin for which no hadd is fixed. Thus in al-Bahr al-Ra’iq, vol. 5, p. 53.
