How much punishment to give children for mischief

Question: May students be beaten, with the hand, with a whip, for their mischief or for not learning their lesson, or not? If they may, then up to how many strokes of the whip? Kindly inform us of the answer.

Answer

Regard must be had to the kind of mischief and to temperament, as well as to endurance. Do not strike a small child more than three slaps, and that too not on the head and face, and do not punish with a whip.
