Punishing a wife for a wrongdoing

Question

For which acts is it permissible to beat one’s wife? In which cases is it permissible and in which impermissible? If he beats her, what is the ruling of the noble Shari‘a? What services may a man take from his wife?

Answer

When the wife shows disrespect to her husband, or uncovers her face before a non-mahram man and jokes and laughs with him, or beats a small child because it is crying, or disobeys the husband in matters of his rights, or commits a sin for which no hadd is fixed by the Shari‘a — in all these cases beating is permissible.
