The ruling on one who sold pork claiming it was goat meat
Question
A painful incident occurred here: a Muslim butcher for a long time sold pork, calling it goat meat. Suddenly this secret came out, and he was handed over to the police. We now request you to state the punishment for him according to the Shari‘a of Muhammad ﷺ, and what the expiation (kaffara) will be for those people who ate that meat having been deceived.
Answer
The Muslim who, lying, sold pork among Muslims claiming it was goat meat — if this is indeed proven — then this person is a criminal both before God and before the Muslims. If there were a Shari‘a government, he should be given such an exemplary punishment that in future no one would dare to do such a thing.
