The limit of punishing children in teaching and upbringing

Question

Question: For both teaching and upbringing there is sometimes a need for beating. Will one be taken to account for this before Allah?

Answer

As far as necessary, there is latitude to give one, two or three slaps, in accordance with endurance, on the neck and back. There is no permission with a stick, a whip, a shoe and the like. For beating beyond what is due, these children will take retaliation (qisas) on the Day of Resurrection.
