Going for Hajj by Begging from People

Question

Hajj is not fard upon a certain person, but he intends to go for Hajj by asking people for money, and he performs Hajj. Will his Hajj be discharged or not? And what is the ruling on asking in this way?

Answer

For one who has food to the amount of a single day’s sustenance, it is not permissible to beg: [ar]لَا يَحِلُّ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْقُوتِ مَنْ لَهُ قُوتُ يَوْمِهِ بِالْفِعْلِ أَوْ بِالْقُوَّةِ[/ar] “It is not lawful for one who has his day’s sustenance, actually or potentially, to ask for anything of sustenance” (“Tahtawi”, p. 393).
