Trading During Hajj
Question
A person goes for Hajj taking some trade goods with him for the sake of profit, and likewise brings goods back from there. Will doing so cause any defect in the reward of Hajj, given that there is no prohibition on taking and bringing these things?
Answer
The reward will not, indeed, be reduced; but if this blessed journey remains entirely free of trade, that is better: [ar]وَتَجْرِيدُ السَّفَرِ عَنِ التِّجَارَةِ أَحْسَنُ، وَلَوِ اتَّجَرَ لَا يَنْقُصُ ثَوَابُهُ[/ar] “Keeping the journey free of trade is better, and if he trades, his reward is not reduced” (“al-Bahr”, vol. 2, p. 333).
