Ten Rupees Given to Be Spent in the Haram Were Spent in Bombay
Question
Zayd was going for Hajj. Bakr gave him ten rupees to spend in the Haram, but Zayd gave them to a poor person in Bombay. What is the ruling of the Shari‘a?
Answer
Zayd erred in spending the money in Bombay; he should have spent it in the Noble Haram. Now he should inform Bakr: if Bakr is agreeable to this expenditure, well and good; otherwise he should return the ten rupees to Bakr.
