The Stratagem of Transfer of Ownership (hilat al-tamlik) for Hajj
Question
I, the humble one, have received a share of an inheritance — three hundred rupees in all — in the following way. From her father’s estate, the share of my late wife came to nine hundred rupees in total. According to the bequest of the deceased, it was divided into three parts: one part went to the sister of the deceased, one to me, the humble one, and one part was set aside for isal al-thawab (dedicating the reward of good deeds)
Answer
The better course here is that those one hundred rupees be given to some poor person for isal al-thawab; if he, of his own free will, gives them to you, you may then use them for your own needs. The deceased made you her agent (wakil) for spending this money on good causes; she did not give permission to keep it yourself.
