Putting a black mark on children’s faces for protection from the evil eye

Question

Is it permissible or not to put a black mark on children’s faces for protection from the evil eye?

Answer

This is not something of the Shari‘a. That the evil eye strikes is true and established; it is found in the noble hadith. For protection from it, it is permissible to adopt whatever remedy and measure is proven by experience, provided that nothing impermissible is committed in it. So if this is the way and distinctive custom (shiʿar) of non-Muslims, it should be avoided.
