Destroying bandits by means of amulets

Question

Some men of a village have become habitual robbers, and the common people are greatly troubled by them. What is the ruling of the Shari‘a regarding such people? Do such people deserve to be destroyed? If they are destroyed by means of amulets and spiritual practices, is it permissible or not?

Answer

The original punishment of bandits mentioned in the Holy Qur’an is execution, crucifixion and also amputation. However, carrying it out has not been entrusted to everyone; rather, for this an amir al-mu’minin possessing a particular kind of authority and dominance is necessary, and under his supervision this punishment may be inflicted.
