Passing the hand over the feet of elders as a greeting
Question
Among us the custom of greeting is that the younger ones sit down, pass their hands over the feet of their elders and touch them to their eyes. Is such a greeting permissible according to the Shari‘a or not?
Answer
This manner of greeting is contrary to the sunna and contrary to Islam; it is the custom of the Harijans (the lowest Hindu castes). It is necessary to abandon it.
