Replying to the greeting of a kafir
Question
If a kafir says “Jai Ram ji” (a Hindu greeting: “glory to Rama”) to a Muslim, and the Muslim raises his hand or says “adab” (an Urdu greeting: “respects”), is that permissible?
Answer
There is room merely to raise the hand or say “adab”. It is better, however, to say: [ar]هداك الله الإسلام[/ar] “May Allah guide you to Islam.”
