Salam to those performing wudu

Question

In the mosque, before or after wudu, some people are praying sunna and nafl prayers, and someone enters the mosque, or, having prayed his own prayer, comes out of the mosque. Is it permissible in such a situation for him to give salam in a loud voice or not? (2) The place of ablution is adjoining the mosque, and some people are performing wudu. In such a situation, may a newcomer greet those performing wudu with salam or not?

Answer

Greeting those who are praying with salam is impermissible; likewise, greeting one who is occupied with du‘a, tasbih, dhikr and the like is also prohibited. But if a person is free, greeting him is correct, both in the mosque and outside it. (2) Greeting one who is performing wudu is correct provided he is not reciting a du‘a; otherwise it is makruh.
