Gesturing with the hand for salam
Question
What is the ruling on raising the hand at the time of salam?
Answer
When needed, raising the hand for salam or for the reply is permissible: for example, if one gives salam to someone from afar or replies to him and cannot make his voice reach him; or if one gives salam or replies to someone who does not hear that voice. In this case, while giving salam or replying with the tongue, he may also gesture with the hand.
