Circumcision of a new Muslim

Question

If a non-Muslim enters Islam and this new Muslim is elderly, is it fard ‘ayn (an individual obligation) upon the Muslims to have his “sunna” (circumcision) done? Or, if the Muslims remain negligent about having his “sunna” done and pay it no attention, what is the ruling concerning them?

Answer

(It is) not fard ‘ayn. However, if he has the strength for the “sunna” (circumcision) to be done and can bear it, it is better to have him circumcised: Hazrat Ibrahim ﵇ circumcised himself at the age of eighty. If he cannot bear it, he should be left as he is and not compelled.
