Gathering people and holding a meal at a circumcision
Question
Question: Is it proper to have people take part in a circumcision and to hold an invitation meal? If the circumcision and the ‘aqiqa (the sacrifice for a newborn) are done together and, after inviting people, one feeds them meat, will there be any harm in it?
Answer
Gathering people at the time of the circumcision is wrong; however, if after the circumcision is over one holds a meal as thanks for fulfilling the sunna — whether together with the ‘aqiqa or without the ‘aqiqa — it is proper. Considering it necessary is wrong.
