Scent (perfume)
Question
What is the ruling on using scent? People say that it contains spirit. Likewise, is it permissible or not to eat food cooked on a spirit stove, or is it makruh?
Answer
If the spirit is impure, then the scent containing this spirit is also impure, and its use is prohibited. Food cooked on a stove in which spirit is used is correct; it is not impure — just as what is cooked on cow-dung cakes or dry dung is pure. Impure scent makes clothes impure, but food does not become impure through the burning of spirit.
