“Scent” and English oils

Question

Is it permissible to use perfume oil or “scent”, and likewise “English” (European) oils and the like, or is it merely khilaf al-awla (contrary to what is preferable)?

Answer

So long as there is no certainty (yaqin) or predominant supposition (ghalabat al-zann) of their impurity, using them is permissible; and if certainty or a predominant supposition of impurity arises, it will not be permissible.
