The length of the beard

Question

Question: I submit that Zayd follows the Hanafi school. One day, in the course of a conversation, several of his friends asked Zayd for proof: where is the restriction of the beard to one fistful (qabda) known from? Is there any authentic (sahih) narration about it in the Sihah Sitta (the six authentic hadith collections), or is one merely following the practice of the noble Companions? Kindly write a reasoned answer, especially as to where the restriction of one fistful is established from.

Answer

The command to grow the beard is found in an authentic hadith. The opposite of growing it is cutting it, whether by trimming (qasr) or by shaving (halq). Commanding something is prohibiting its opposite — just as the command to pray is a prohibition of abandoning prayer. When the command is for obligation (wujub)
